Community Supported Agriculture Stewardship of the Land Green Garden Goodies Updates and Photos
Thanks to the 10 CSA members that signed up with me this year. I am also selling produce at Shelton Farmers Market on Saturday from 9-2 and at the Blue Heron Bakery on Tuesdays from 3-6pm and on select Thursdays from 4-6pm.

Land Stewardship
From growing up in Northern Minnesota woods to climbing the 14,000ft peaks in Colorado I learned about wilderness and how important the wilderness is. However, it wasn't until I actually studied agriculture at Evergreen that I began to understand how much we as a people have forgotten how to be stewards of the land.
Today most farms only grow one or two crops and incorporate chemicals that not only kill weeds and insects but the microbes in the soil as well.

There are more living organisms in a handful of healthy soil then the human population of Seattle. It is these organisms that keep plants healthy and strong. Therefore caring for and building soil is a key component to a healthy land and food.

My job in this life is to be a steward of the land by caring for and maintaining the health of the land where ever I live as a legacy of those who came before me, those that are here now and for all those that will maintain the land after me.

Where is Greenman's Garden?
I have been blessed with the opportunity to farm at Loertscher Farm or as it has most recently been known as Giggling Goat Gardens. I worked with Katrinka Hibler as an intern from The Evergreen State College on the farm last year, but she has decided to go back to school this year.

So with a lot of thought it only made sense that I continue working out there as a steward of the land, for the land, for the family and for the community.

Though the land has been certified organic in years past but I have opted not to continue that certification, simply because as a new farmer I cannot afford the costs at this time. However, knowing what the organic standards are, my intention is to not just meet them but surpass them. My goal and focus is to establish a independent way of growing food that requires little or no off farm resources and to maintain and build the soils of the land. Yes I plan on start saving my own seed but everything in steps but it is in the plan!
